Strategy #1:

Always jump before throwing stuff, you get a little bit more height out of it. Don't throw at buildings, if it lands on the roof you lose that air time. Don't bother picking up cars unless they come within reach by themselves. Don't throw in the direction of nearby cars, it will target the car instead of throwing the item high. Go left from the starting point and make your way east picking off trees, light poles, bus stops, etc. and the cars that come up to you. You clear the skyscrapers quickly which makes it easier to throw things. If you make it a little further you'll see a road that slopes down towards the right. This is an excellent direction to throw things.

Strategy #2:

The bridge is the highest thing in the area I can think of that readily has stuff to throw off of. The cars spawn rather slowly though, so this may not have the best yield.

Strategy #3:

Head left, grabbing and throwing stuff along the way. When you reach the intersection that goes downhill to the right, turn left and walk a block to a park with a stand of several trees clustered together. A vehicle type with a fast-walking robot mode is good, not sure which one is best, possibly the jet.
